Dr. Dvora Joseph Davey

Infectious Disease Epidemiologist

Dr. Dvora Joseph Davey is an Infectious Disease Epidemiologist based in Cape Town, South Africa where she researches how best to prevent and treat HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in women, families and children. She is an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at University of California Los Angeles and an Honorary Senior Lecturer of Epidemiology at the University of Cape Town. She has been involved in research in Southern Africa since 2003 where she has developed and evaluated donor-funded epidemiological studies to inform effective, culturally relevant interventions aimed at reducing the burden of HIV and related diseases on women, children, and families. Her global health experience includes research in South Africa, Mozambique, Rwanda, Peru, and Thailand.

Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA, Dvora was a Country Director and for a NGO implementing HIV prevention and treatment programs in Mozambique.  Dvora completed her doctoral studies at the University of California, Los Angeles in Epidemiology and her Master’s degree in public health at Columbia University.

Dvora has served on the Jim Joseph Foundation Board of Directors since 2006. Dvora also served on the Board of Repair the World and is passionate about engaging young Jews in volunteering, learning and giving back to their communities.
