Mandie Winston
Chief Executive
United Jewish Israel Appeal (UJIA)
Mandie Winston relocated from Mitzpe Ramon in Israel to take up the role of Chief Executive of UJIA in January 2020. She grew up in London, and holds a BA in Jewish History from UCL, and a MSc from the New School in International Relations specializing in Development Economics.
Prior to moving to Israel in 1996, she was deeply involved in the community’s Jewish and Israel-focused institutions, a youth movement graduate of the Machon programme and, after making Aliya, a manager and educator on gap year programmes for British Jews. After joining JDC in 2001, she took this formative experience and leveraged it to build community development and humanitarian interventions aiding Jewish and others in need.
Among her key accomplishments, she led flagship emergency response and disaster recovery programs in Haiti, the Philippines and Nepal and coordinated efforts for Syrian refugees. She led the launch of a cutting-edge international development initiative which addresses poverty among smallholder farmers in Ethiopia through access to Israeli agricultural technology, knowledge and finance. Mandie also served as JDC’s regional director for Africa and Asia; Country Director for India; represented JDC on the ground in Sri Lanka following the Indian Ocean Tsunami; and was deputy director of JDC Moscow and Central Russia where she helped build emerging Jewish life and founded women's health programs.
Mandie serves on the board of the NALA Foundation, an Israeli organization dedicated breaking the poverty cycle in Ethiopia by eradicating Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and other diseases of poverty. She is the proud mum of Matan and Eliya and is passionate about the power of community to transform lives.
